The spending increase is due to costs associated with a summer 2010 retirement incentive that will save $2.7 million in staffing costs over two years.

On April 27, component board members voted to approve Capital Region BOCES’ $7.7 million administrative budget for 2011-2012 and elected four BOCES Board of Education members.

The administrative portion of the overall $108.7 million budget is composed of two portions: the cost of current operations and retiree health insurance costs. Spending for operations is slated to decrease in the proposed budget, to below contingency levels.

Retiree health insurance costs are slated to increase due to charges related to a retirement incentive, but due to a voluntary salary freeze by top-level administrators, continuing cost-saving efforts and use of reserve funds, the administrative budget carries no increase in charges to component district assessments. (See charges by district.)

“Thank you to our component districts, for supporting this budget during this difficult financial year,” said District Superintendent Dr. Charles S. Dedrick. “Thank you also to all the superintendents who gave input during this budget's development, including on what cuts to make, and their continuing guidance on long-term cost-saving measures we continue to pursue.” Read more about BOCES' recent cost-saving efforts
