Building & Grounds Maintenance
(NOTE: Course will not be offered in Sept.
2011)
Students in the Building & Grounds Maintenance program at the
Schoharie campus prepare for a range of employment opportunities.
The houses, apartment buildings, offices, schools, hospitals,
hotels, stores, parks, athletic fields and college campuses we use
every day have one thing in common: They all must be maintained.
Building & Grounds Maintenance students are exposed to a wide
variety of skills and are prepared for employment or further
education.
Students develop skills in eight areas: electricity, plumbing,
carpentry, welding, landscaping, equipment maintenance and repair,
blueprint reading, and janitorial duties. Students work on
individual and group projects, and the program is designed to teach
important concepts such as responsibility, teamwork, proper
workplace behavior, quality and customer service.
Building & Grounds Maintenance is a Career Studies program for
students who want to learn hands-on, at an alternative pace. These
programs are designed to meet all the provisions of each student's
individualized educational program through providing challenging,
developmentally appropriate career prep experiences. Career Studies
programs have a student-teacher ratio of approximately 12:1 and are
taught by teachers with substantial real-world experience in their
given trade.
Students completing this program may continue their studies in the
Construction Technology program or, if they have completed high
school, continue learning through the BOCES Adult Education program
or at a community college.
