Office Operations/Health Services

Designed for students who enjoy working with others, Office Operations/Health Services focuses on beginning office work, basic skills and knowledge needed for employment in a health-related field.

Students learn about computers, keyboarding and calculators using the touchtyping method with an emphasis on accuracy and speed. They are exposed to business software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. They also learn about infection control, personal care, resident relations, and housekeeping as related to providing indirect care to residents of a health care facility.

Office Operations/Health Services students gain real-world experience and put their skills into practice through job sampling experiences at local businesses and health care and nursing facilities. Upon completion, they are prepared for a range of career opportunities or further training in the business and/ or health care field, such as the Administrative & Medical Office Assistant or Nurse Assistant programs.

Office Operations/Health Services is a Career Studies program for students who want to learn hands-on at an alternative pace. The program meets provisions of students’ individualized educational programs (IEP) through challenging, developmentally appropriate career prep experiences. Career Studies programs have a student-teacher ratio of approximately 12:1 and are taught by educators with substantial experience in their profession.
