Theatre Technology

Is your future on the stage or behind the scenes? Are the performing arts your passion? Career and Tech offers an exciting, hands-on program in Theatre Technology in partnership with Proctors in Schenectady, where classes are held.

Theatre Technology and Proctors provide students with lots of opportunities to experience the the technical side of theatre and the performing arts, whether the event is a play, rock show, film festival, ballet or lecture. The career and creative opportunities are virtually limitless! And Proctors, which is recognized as a premier center for the arts, has significantly expanded and enhanced its facilities in recent years to offer even greater benefits for students and the community.

Theatre Technology will build your understanding of and appreciation for the performing arts as a cultural, recreational and aesthetic force. You'll learn about technical aspects of theatrical production including design interpretation, tools and equipment, building materials, construction and painting techniques, and stage lighting equipment and procedures.

Your backstage education will be complemented by work on actual productions, internships and job shadowing, and field trips, which will build your real-world skill while helping you explore career and college opportunities.

High school juniors in Theatre Technology can earn credit for integrated science, and seniors can earn credit for integrated English.

Upon completion of the program, you'll be well-prepared to continue your studies at college or to pursue work in the field. Some students may be offered opportunities for employment while still in school!
