SED RFQ for Teacher and Principal Practice Rubrics, April 29, 2011 [PDF]
Board of Regents adopts teaching standards
The New York State Board of Regents adopted the New York State Teaching Standards, Elements and Performance Indicators at their January 2011 meeting. The standards are designed to be used throughout a teacher's career: preparation, induction, mentoring, evaluation, professional development and movement through a career ladder.
The new standards form the basis for rubrics that will be identified or developed and used in the Annual Professional Performance Review process. They are seven standards that include teaching and learning, planning, student challenge and engagement, assessment and documenting student growth, creating dynamic learning environments, professional responsibility and continuous professional growth.
The New York State Teaching Standards, Elements and Performance Indicators are available online.

Understanding and addressing the new mandates will be
challenging for us all. The regulations regarding the
implementation of this process are incomplete. We expect the
work of the joint task force to be discussed and most likely
adopted at the January Regents meeting. There is definitely
more information to come.
Review what we know currently.
