CTE and partner Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium to offer high-tech, high fun summer camps this July
The Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School (Career & Tech), in partnership with the Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium, will again offer two very popular Career Pathways summer day-camps for local high school students. The camps are open to young people of all abilities, interests and talents, and scholarships are available to cover camp tuition.
SEMI High Tech U
From July 12-15, 2011, Career & Tech offers SEMI High Tech U, an action-packed, four-day journey
into high-tech careers that is being cosponsored by GLOBALFOUNDRIES
and the Center for Economic Growth to students
entering grades 9-11 next fall. After beginning their day at
Career & Tech's Albany campus, SEMI High Tech U campers will venture
to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Schenectady County Community
College, and the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the
University at Albany.
Led by high-tech professionals, they'll engage in exciting, hands-on activities, working as teams to create products and solve problems while finding the fun in math, science and technology.
Build a Better Robot
From July 25-29, our popular Build a Better Robot camp
is offered at Union College to students entering grades 9-12 in fall
2011.
Campers will learn to construct and program in Basic as they take a
box of parts and transform it into a working robot. The camp also
includes sessions on robotics in general, and demonstrations of
robots developed at Union College. The week culminates in an
exhibition for parents and the public at the Schenectady Museum
where students will showcase their robots.
Enrollment
Students must be recommended by a school counselor or teacher to be
considered for enrollment in the camps, and they should apply for
scholarships to cover tuition costs. Space is limited. A website link and printed brochures will be made
available in the near future.
The Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium is a partnership between Capital Region BOCES, Questar III, SUNY Cobleskill, Columbia-Greene Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES, and Schenectady County Community College. The Consortium is developing programs in green technologies, advanced manufacturing systems, nanotechnology and bioscience at both the high school and college levels.
The Consortium also works to improve the connection between other
career and technical education programs taught at the high school
level with degree programs offered at local colleges. The Tech
Valley Career Pathways Consortium along with its members advises
students, parents, employees and the general public that it offers
employment and educational opportunities without regard to gender,
race, color, national origin or disability.
