Thank you, John Yagielski

BOCES says goodbye to longtime board member

Thank you to longtime Board of Education member John Yagielski, who has resigned from the Capital Region BOCES board effective June 30, so that he can focus on his new position as Interim Superintendent of Schenectady City Schools.

"We will miss John's experience, perspective and deep knowledge of education," said District Superintendent Charles Dedrick. "John has been an invaluable asset to all the students and districts served by BOCES, and we wish him well in his new position."

"John will be missed by each and every board member," said Board President Sandra Beloncik. "He has such an extensive background
to pull from; He was many times the 'go to person' if we as a board needed a particular question answered." She added, "I will personally miss John, we together attended numerous seminars and conferences. The best thing that I learned from John is that you can never stop learning."

Yagielski served on the BOCES board beginning in 2002, and in his time on the board served on several committees, including most recently the Legislative Advisory, Facilities/Finance Advisory and Audit committees. His home district is Shenendehowa.

In his letter of resignation, Yagielski said, "It has been an honor and privilege to serve as a board member. I will sincerely miss all of the dedicated staff and board members I have had the pleasure to work with over the past eight years. Best wishes for your continued success."

Board election

On August 12, component boards of education will vote on the candidacy of Gary DiLallo, to fill the position vacated by John Yagielski, which ends June 30, 2011. DiLallo is a retired teacher and serves on the Shenendehowa Board of Education. (Read his full profile.) By law, BOCES must hold elections to fill vacant positions within 45 days of the resignation.
