Global Fashion Studies students seek models

They're already thinking "Back To School"

Do you know a young person who can help showcase the latest apparel and accessories? Our Global Fashion Studies students will be busy through the summer preparing Colonie Center's annual Back To School Fashion Show, one of the region's largest such events, which they'll present on Saturday, Sept. 10.

They are seeking models for an August 2 casting call, which will take place at the mall from 4-6:30 p.m. Models will try out by turning in an application, showing some moves and answering some basic questions. Models ages 5 to 20  are needed, and each must agree to attend at least two free modeling lessons offered through the Global Fashion Studies students.

According to Global Fashion Studies Teacher Judy Hicks, "Free modeling lessons will be provided for those who make the cut! Each model chooses the dates that work for him or her. We'll offer lessons from 6-7 p.m. on August 15, 16, 23, 25, 29, 31 and September 6 and 8."

Applications can be picked up at the Colonie Center Customer Service Desk up to two weeks in advance of the August 2 casting call. No reservations are required for the casting call; those interested should show up between 4 and 6:30 p.m. that day.

"The casting call is free of charge," Hicks said, "Dress fashionably. Be able to answer questions regarding commitment to practice and do a good job. Our models must be able to show the attitude of someone who feels special, stylish, confident and cool in their new back to school clothes. Also, models need to be able to follow directions, smile and have fun!"

Hicks added, "We are looking for all types of models, boys and girls of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and backgrounds. They do not have to look like experienced models or stars, just be real kids who care about what they are wearing."

Colonie Center's annual Back To School Fashion Show is always well attended and enjoyable for both participants and the audience. The event features clothing and accessories of all styles and prices, professional commentary and lively, upbeat music. The Global Fashions Studies class produces the entire show, working throughout the summer and early part of the school year. They coordinate casting calls, lessons and practice sessions, work with stores, vendors and mall management, craft the script, and play many roles in the event itself.

Hicks said she's "honored each year to be part of an event which is considered to be the biggest fashion affair in the Capital Region."
