Innovation will abound at Technology Awareness Day

Annual event takes place Dec. 9 at the Holiday Inn Albany

What do iPads, Android tablets, Google Earth and innovative web-based learning environments have in common? Educators will showcase the ways they are using these and other tools to enhance K-12 education across New York state at the annual Regional Technology Awareness Day Dec. 9.

Tech Awareness Day kicks off at 8 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Holiday Inn Albany on Wolf Road. This year's event will feature presentations from nine different school districts.

In addition, NERIC staff will offer an in-depth look at NERIC Connect, a web-based, state-of-the-art collaboration tool fully customized by NERIC for fulfilling a wide variety of district needs, from office process automation to collection and analysis features for crucial student data.

This year's keynote speaker for the event will be John E. Kolb, P.E., vice president for information services and technology and chief information officer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.

Now in its 23rd year, Tech Awareness Day is organized by NERIC staff. The event brings together numerous stakeholders dedicated to the advancement of educational technology: school superintendents, building principals, school business officials, technology coordinators, teachers and, most importantly, students. These stakeholders reside across NERIC's service area, which includes 12 counties, seven BOCES and 137 school districts.

The event gives these groups opportunities to demo new educational technology products from NERIC vendor partners, watch presentations from different school districts, and attend information sessions facilitated by NERIC staff. These opportunities are meant to generate questions, build new relationships and spark ideas for using technology in meaningful ways within classrooms and school operations.
