July 28 & 29

Growing Into Inquiry
When: July 28 and 29, 2009
Tuesday 8:30 - 4:00
Wednesday 8:30 - 3:30
Cost - $50 per person
15 in-service hours

This two day workshop requires three things from participants:

  1. Plan to attend both days
  2. Plan to attend as a team - librarian and teacher partnerships
  3. Bring with you a lesson or unit that you wish to further develop

With the Capital Region BOCES Regional Information Inquiry Curriculum as a platform, teacher-librarian partners will collaboratively review the inquiry process, explore the dynamics of guided inquiry, and reconsider the role of the learner in questioning, constructing, and creating new understandings. Starting with content curriculum, existing resource based units, and collaborative practice, teachers and school library media specialists will transform traditional information problem solving plans to incorporate the 21st Century Skills of inquiry learning. New learning will help participants to GROW INTO INQUIRY and reap the rewards of motivated, engaged, thinking learners.

Lunch will be served both days.

Aug 10 & 11

Curriculum for 21st Century Inquiry - Design for Early Learning
When: August 10 and 11, 2009
Monday 8:00 – 4:00
Tuesday 8:00 – 3:00
Cost: $0

15 in-service hours (note – we will work through lunch both days to make the 15 hour total – be sure to bring your lunch!)

Since 2006 librarians and teachers have been working with a regionally developed information literacy curriculum. This document will be edited and adapted to primary and intermediate learners. Does Inquiry work with little ones? Absolutely! Learn to tap into the natural curiosity of young learners and begin building skills that will serve them for a lifetime of learning!

Mary Ratzer and Linda Fox will facilitate this two day workshop. The goal at the end of day 2 is to have developed appropriate language and processes for implementation of information literacy skills at the elementary level. We especially encourage middle school and high school librarians to participate. What skills do you need to see when students arrive on your doorstep? We’ll need your input!

Security Question:
