Growing Into Inquiry

Inquiry provides a framework for learning

"To become independent learners, students must gain not only the skills but also the disposition to use those skills, along with an understanding of their own responsibilities and self-assessment strategies. Combined, these four elements build a learner who can thrive in a complex information environment" (from: Standards for the 21st Century Learner. American Association of School Librarians)

Growing Into Inquiry in the Capital Region

In an effort to implement the Information Fluency Curriculum at the classroom and learner level, the School Library System has begun working with teams of teachers and librarians during summer and in-district workshops. Teams come together with a project, unit or lesson that they have taught in the past and that they enjoy teaching. Closely examining the Information Fluency Curriculum, teams modify and re-work projects to incorporate the critical skills therein. Technology is integrated where appropriate. The dynamic of team teaching and inter-team conversations provides powerful motivation and creative ideas. Assessments are altered to reflect new learning in both content area and process.
